Open Section Offices

The following offices are up for election in Spring 2024 at the Section Meeting at UT-Knoxville. Email our Nomination Committee chair Anant Godbole (godbolea@mail.etsu.edu) to express your interest in a position or to nominate a fellow section member.

Chair-Elect – Serves a one-year term on the executive board leading into a two-year term as Chair
• Provide leadership for the programs
• Set the agenda and preside at each business meeting for the membership, special meetings, and each Executive Committee meeting
• Convene a meeting of the Executive Committee and annual meeting planners
• Appoint committees of the section
• Designate the chairs for each Committee
• Be a member ex officio of each Committee
• Attend the meeting of section officers at MathFest
• Oversee revision of bylaws

Section Lecturer – One-year term
• Deliver an address at the Annual Meeting of the Section, giving an exposition of his/her creative work in Mathematics and/or Mathematics Education
• Be available over a period of two years to visit a limited number of institutions within the Section and present lectures on mathematical topics to the students and faculty of those institutions

Newsletter Editor – Three-year term
 • Prepare issues of the Section Newsletter each fall and each spring
• Solicit items for the Newsletter from various sources, including all annual solicitation from each institution in the Section
• Oversee the sale of advertisements in the Newsletter
• Report to the Executive Committee on efforts to maintain the high quality of the Newsletter.
• Notify each Section member when the newsletter is posted

NC State Director – Three-year term
• Coordinate state-level MAA activities including an annual state dinner/lunch with the approval of the Executive committee

SC State Director – Three-year term
• Coordinate state-level MAA activities including an annual state dinner/lunch with the approval of the Executive committee

Section NExT-SE Co-Director – Three-year term, one of three Co-Directors
• Plan and staff the Section NExT-SE activities taking place before each Spring Sectional Meeting, as well as activities and sessions for beginning faculty in general
• Coordinate Section efforts to promote activities for beginning faculty beyond the Annual Meeting
• Coordinate recruiting and selection of new NExT-SE Fellows in the spring of odd calendar years
• Maintain the list of Section NExT-SE Fellows and participants, which should include the Section members who are in the NExT on the national level
